Merchant Simon Mendel constructed a house on Avram Iancu Street in 1872 and lived there until he relocated to his secession-style villa on Dr. Ioan Raţiu Street in 1902. He then donated the House on Avram Iancu street to the Jewish community where it functioned as a confessional school from 1903 until 1948.
