Merchant Simon Mendel constructed a house on Avram Iancu Street in 1872 and lived there until he relocated to his secession-style villa on Dr. Ioan Raţiu Street in 1902. He then donated the House on Avram Iancu street to the Jewish community where it functioned as a confessional school from 1903 until 1948. After World War II, the “Villa Mendel” was nationalized by the government and became known successively as The “House of Army”, Military Circle, and is now CASA REMO – Guest House.
